Angus Mackay graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 1980 and passed the ICE Law and Contract procedure examination papers 1 and 2 in 1990. He has been a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE) since 1991. He is currently responsible for the development of the civil and structural design of the proposed new LLW disposal facilities at Dounreay.
From 2001 to 2008 Angus was the Principal Engineer and Technical Director with Jacobs Engineering (JE) responsible for the delivery of a range of engineering and environmental services to UKAEA at Dounreay in support of new build, maintenance and demolition works. This included studies for strategy development to support the decision-making process and the delivery of a range of engineering and environmental projects to implement those strategies. During that time, he was also the JE Project Manager and Design Manager for the development of the proposed new LLW facilities at Dounreay, providing support to UKAEA in the planning and regulatory consent processes and on the procurement stage.
Angus has extensive civil engineering experience outside the nuclear sector:
For eight years he worked as a Design Engineer for the Highland Council roads department in Inverness, and was responsible for maintenance and new build projects for bridges and roads throughout the Highlands.
For five years he was a Design Engineer with Dinardo Partnership in Inverness and was involved in the design, development and procurement of a wide range of civil engineering infrastructure projects.
He worked as a Site Engineer and Site Agent with Morrison Construction Ltd. for two years, and was involved in the construction of new roads in both rural and urban settings in the Highlands and refurbishment works on the Caledonian Canal.
He worked for two years for Alan Dick & Co and was the Site Engineer and Contracts Manager for the construction of high-elevation masts, towers and antenna systems in Nigeria.
He worked for three years for William Hare Ltd. as a Site Engineer and Contracts Manager and was involved in the fabrication and erection of structural steelwork buildings, process plants, furnaces and vessels for industries across the UK.
