Scientific Consultancy Opportunity

Galson Sciences Limited is a research and consultancy company specialising in environmental risk assessment, risk management, nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management and disposal. Our staff are of the highest calibre, and we place an emphasis on individual initiative, concern for quality, and teamwork.

We are interested in hearing from both recent post-graduates and experienced candidates with confidence in their abilities, seeking to develop their career in nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management consultancy. You will be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, self motivation, an aptitude for applied problem solving, and an ability to deliver high quality work to tight timescales. You will have an MSc or PhD in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering. Relevant nuclear experience and/or knowledge of modelling, particularly with respect to geological characterisation, groundwater flow processes, gas and contaminant transport through geological media, radiological risk assessment, and/or nuclear safety case development would be advantageous.

You will quickly be given responsibility and will be expected to contribute to the development of a small and dynamic company. You will work on a wide range of industry, regulatory and policy projects in the UK and overseas and be given a unique opportunity to develop all-round experience in the nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management industry. We offer a highly competitive salary and employment package. Our head offices are located in a pleasant market town in the East Midlands, but an option may be available for experienced candidates to work in other parts of the UK.

Background Information

The UK nuclear industry is experiencing renewed interest, both for the construction of new nuclear stations and for the decommissioning of the existing nuclear infrastructure and the disposal of resulting wastes. Overseas, radioactive waste disposal programmes are underway in Belgium, Finland, France, Sweden, Japan and the United States, amongst others. Galson Sciences Limited is active in all of these areas.
