Galson Sciences Ltd - Data management

Electronic document and issue management systems are increasingly used to improve the traceability of information flow through suites of documents, and between operators and regulators. GSL therefore has a track record of success in this area. For example, we have developed:
  • A waste disposal Requirements Database in Microsoft Access linked to a document Folio Views® system for the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) by GSL. This database contains a detailed list of all regulatory requirements that the project must meet, linked to documents and work programmes.

  • An "Issues Database" for the Environment Agency to record the identification and resolution of issues for the low-level waste repository (LLWR) near Drigg.

  • A relational document management system for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) project that contains the entire Compliance Certification Application and the record of regulatory and stakeholder review and comment response.

  • A Performance Assessment Support System (PASS) for the WIPP project containing all of the safety assessment information as a relational database for tracking information, linking performance assessment (PA) elements, and undertaking impact analysis and change management. PASS has since been developed into a web-based system (PA_TARDIS).

  • A functional specification for a Requirements Management System (RMS) for ONDRAF/NIRAS. This RMS will assist the management of a project to deliver a repository / disposal system for radioactive waste disposal, helping to formalise the repository design process, and helping to achieve the important goals of clear communication and traceable, justified decision-making.

  • A conceptualisation of the decision-making processes in NUMO's structured approach to repository development. This conceptualisation was then used to develop class and activity diagrams, and a functional specification for implementation alongside other elements of NUMO's RMS.
