Galson Sciences Ltd - Thermo-hydro-mechanical analysis
For Nirex, GSL conducted quantitative analyses of heat transfer, convection, and thermal stress for the intermediate-level waste, spent fuel, and high-level waste co-disposal project. The analyses involved modelling heat generated from the decay of the different waste forms, heat transfer in the near and far-fields of the different disposal regions, and thermally-induced stress. A finite difference computer model developed and verified by GSL was used for this analysis. The work established the extent of thermal interactions between different disposal regions for different repository configurations.
