Galson Sciences Ltd - Proponent-Regulator dialogue
GSL staff have been directly involved in supporting interactions between proponents and regulators in the area of radioactive waste management and for a range of non-nuclear contentious facilities. We have supported both regulators and proponents in this capacity, and have conducted seminars and published papers on strategies for dialogue.
For example, we supported the US Department of Energy (DOE) in its regulatory interactions for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) licensing. In the UK, we have supported the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) in its regulatory interactions with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) and Highland Council, and we have supported the Environment Agency in its regulatory interactions with British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) on the Drigg reauthorisation.
In these roles we are essentially performing as an extension of our client's staff.
