Galson Sciences Ltd - Cost forecasts and analyses

GSL staff have undertaken a cost study for the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM), estimating and comparing costs for all short-listed waste management options, including storage and disposal options for low-level waste (LLW), intermediate-level waste (ILW), high-level waste (HLW) and spent fuel.  This work considered costs using both bottom-up and top-down (comparisons with similar facilities) approaches, and estimated contingencies associated with all cost estimates.

GSL staff have also undertaken cost analysis for the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) of the LLW management options at Dounreay, including costing of in-situ treatment and clean-up and disposal projects, and have considered cost issues associated with various waste management options considered in the development of site-wide Integrated Waste Strategy (IWS).  We have also undertaken cost analysis of waste management and storage options for clients including UKAEA Dounreay, Windscale, Magnox Electric and British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL).  For the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) project, we were involved in the development of the System Prioritisation Methodology, which included financial considerations in prioritising future work on the basis of cost and projected benefit.
