Galson Sciences Ltd - Risk Management & Communication

We provide services in risk management and risk communication that address perceived risk issues as well as technically assessed risks, with a view to their responsible and effective management. GSL staff are internationally recognised for their knowledge and practical experience in this field in both the nuclear and non-nuclear sectors, and this is now a major sector of company business in its own right. For example:
  • We have worked with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) on a wide range of issues requiring stakeholder consultation [e.g., Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO) studies for Windscale Pile 1 and Pile 2 decommissioning, Integrated Waste Strategy development, Dounreay low-level waste (LLW) management, active oils and solvents, Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) raffinates, shaft endpoint, all wastes].

  • We have initiated similar work for British Nuclear Group Sellafield Limited (BNGSL) [BPEO studies for Legacy Ponds and Legacy Silos (LP&LS) remediation, Magnox Wet Silo treatment plant, Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP) facility, and Integrated Waste Strategy development].

  • We have organised, facilitated and reported on an international seminar on risk communication for the UK government, and we have developed risk communication manuals for the UK environmental agencies (via SNIFFER, the Scottish and Northern Ireland Forum for Environmental Research).

  • Extensive work on risk communication and facilitation of stakeholder engagement has also been performed outside the nuclear arena - in particular for government and industry clients in the telecoms, rail, and public health sectors. We are also able to provide staff training to help our clients prepare better for interactions with stakeholders.
