Galson Sciences Ltd - Nuclear Safety Studies
- Collation and analysis of nuclear safety information
- Reviews of nuclear facilities and operations
- Reviews of nuclear safety regulations and practice
We periodically analyse incidents and events at NPPs, reprocessing facilities and other European fuel cycle facilities. We have undertaken reviews and surveys for Japanese organisations for the last eight years. We have also undertaken work directly for nuclear safety regulators in the UK (Nuclear Installations Inspectorate), the US [Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)], Sweden [Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate (SKI), Swedish Radiation Protection Authority (SSI)], and France [Directorate General for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (DGSNR) and Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN); we also have contacts in the Regional Directorates for Industry, Research and the Environment (DRIRE), who have assisted us with previous nuclear safety projects], and have extensive contacts within these organisations. Furthermore, we have broad experience of working for nuclear operators in the UK, especially the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) (Windscale, Dounreay) and British Nuclear Group (Sellafield, Hinkley Point A, Trawsfynydd).
For example, we have carried out work in the following areas:
- Response to nuclear emergencies. In the aftermath of the Tokai-mura accident in 1999, we reviewed the system for the control of nuclear safety in the UK during emergencies.
- Evaluations of nuclear regulatory organisation and training requirements. We have reported on recruitment, training and development practices and requirements for nuclear regulatory personnel in the UK and France.
A list of our services in other areas is provided on the left. (You can also click here to download a PDF document on GSL's Nuclear Safety Services.)
